Job Description

Hello!
We are _SocialStarters and we design the spaces and opportunities to nurture and ignite the social changer in you.

We currently take career changers and career breakers, post-grads and sabbaticalists, corporate learners and freelancers to amazing places, to work alongside grassroots social entrepreneurs, social changers and NGOs. We are looking for volunteers who can use their skills and experience to create change.

Join us in January & April 2016 in Hyderabad, India.

Hyderabad is a cultural hotbed of entrepreneurial talent and has an outstanding food and an arts scene. We are recruiting volunteer ‘Social Impact Consultants’, who we will train to support grassroots social entrepreneurs. As well as gaining hands on experience in the world of social enterprise overseas there will also be the opportunity to focus on your learning and development, an important part of your volunteer journey.

Who are we?

We are a small group of young professionals who have been making our move away from the corporate sector in the last few years. Since then we’ve been notching up hours in volunteer management, international development, youth media, CSR & social enterprise. Between us we have over 30 years of professional experience, and recently we’ve been running enterprise and social action youth programmes, managing over 200 volunteers along the way
.
Who are you?
You feel it’s time to share your skills and experience to make an impact in the world
Or perhaps you want to immerse yourself into another culture, meet like minded people and take on a new challenge

Maybe, you’ve left your job or are thinking of leaving and want to explore different opportunities

You’re looking to travel with purpose

You want to gain new skills or work on your own personal development

You want to make a change in your life and are looking for an experience that might spark a shift in your life, but you don’t know where to start

Who will you be working with?
Your clients will be a group of grassroots Indian social entrepreneurs who are making a huge different in their communities. They are tackling social issues affecting women’s empowerment, livelihoods, disability, environment, and health. In the past we have supported clients working on app based products, handicrafts, peer to peer car sharing, products made from recycled materials, a mobile school for disadvantaged communities, a bakery run by young people with autism..to name just a few!

We work with UnLtd Hyderabad, an affiliate of the social entrepreneurship incubator UnLtd India, a sister organisation to UnLtd in the UK. UnLtd is a one year programme, where they develop social impact start-ups and non profits to make more impact in their communities and across India.

You’ll get to work with start-ups who are at the early stages of their start-up journey (approx. 1-2 years).

What happens on the programme?
Firstly using your profiles, the client’s needs assessments and information from our partner, we match you with a client who needs the skills and experience that you have

You then take part in Training Week which equips you with the essentials you need to know about global and Indian social entrepreneurship, basic consultancy tools and techniques, and an introduction to start up methods. The aim is to enable you to support you client appropriately over the forthcoming 5 weeks

We then put you into pairs with the client you have both been matched with

You will conduct your own needs assessment to determine what can be achieved in the following 5 weeks

You’ll pick a project to work on, focusing on the key objectives that you decide on with your client

You will then spend the remaining weeks identifying problems, sharing knowledge, designing solutions, testing ideas or building brands making a long lasting impact for your client

After Training Week the learning doesn’t stop either – we provide additional sessions through workshops to give you a deeper dive into some of the methods we introduce, affording you better knowledge in key areas

We also provide 1:1 sessions and additional workshops to guide you through your own personal development journey

If you have a project or business idea you want to explore in your spare time this is also encouraged and you can rally support from your peer group!

What our former Hyderabad cohort say:
“I’ve attended dozens of training courses and workshops in my time, and I have to say that the format, style and quality of the training has been exceptional. I’ve learnt more than I ever could have imagined on topics such as social enterprise, lean start-ups and the local market. It’s been a fully rounded and immersive experience.”
