Internship 6 Week Volunteer Social Enterprise Consultant India (October)

_SocialStarters – Posted by SocialStarters Bommayapalayam, Tamil Nadu, India

Job Description

_Hello.

We deliver human-centred programmes that see the growth of social entrepreneurship in hard to reach places. And we are looking for amazing people to join us!
We take career changers and career breakers, post-grads and sabbaticalists, corporate learners and freelancers to amazing places, to work alongside grassroots social entrepreneurs to gain hands on experience in the world of social enterprise overseas.

_Join us in October in Auroville, Southern India.

We are recruiting our second cohort of trainee ‘Social Enterprise Consultants’ in Auroville, Tamil Nadu, volunteers we train to support a group of grassroots social entrepreneurs.
Auroville has an incredibly fascinating heritage and it’s root are embedded in experimentation – in this case, it came out of a simple ideal that you could ‘create’ a harmonious civilsation from scratch.

Backed by UNESCO and the Indian government, the creators of the contemporary township of Auroville wanted to create a new civilisation that was as dynamic and it was multi-cultural. To this day, Auroville is a living testament to sustainable living and the future cultural, environmental, and social needs of its population.

It’s been described as “a place to ditch the life you’ve lived, and live the life you’ve always wanted, even if for a few days; here your conviction to follow your passion holds more value than your salary or title (Read: Auroville: Utopia or Something Like it).”

_Who are we?

We are a small group of young professionals who have been making our move away from the corporate sector in the last few years. Since then we’ve been notching up hours in volunteer management, international development, youth media, CSR & social enterprise. Between us we have over 30 years of professional experience, and recently we’ve been running enterprise and social action youth programmes, managing over 200 volunteers along the way.

_Who are you?

Having worked relentlessly for years in various corporates, in challenging leadership or executive roles, you’ve started planning your escape route. It’s time.

Maybe you have left your job already and are thinking of starting out on your own in 2015/16 – perhaps you’re already self employed or a freelancer, and it’s time to up the game?

Or perhaps you are looking to do something completely new and just don’t know where to start. In which case, we might just have the programme for you.

_What you would do?

You would come and become an invaluable part of the _SocialStarters team as a trainee Social Enterprise Consultant:

First up, we put you through a training week that equips you with the essentials around global and Indian social entrepreneurship, basic business skills & start up methods and tools for doing consultancy work.

We then match you with your own client, a social entrepreneur who needs your support!

You then conduct a needs assessment to determine what can be achieved in the following 5 weeks.

You manage your clients expectations around what can be achieved – then set to work! This is approximately a full time programme so you’ll be working on your client’s work roughly 4-5 days a week.

You will then spend the remaining weeks identifying challenging, co-designing solutions, maybe testing some ideas or building brands but ultimately whatever work you do you’ll be making a long lasting impact for your client.

After the training week the learning doesn’t stop either – we provide additional sessions and tools that give you a deeper dive into some of the methods we introduce, affording you better knowledge in key areas from our expert team.

_Who will you be working with?

Your clients will be a small group of grassroots Indian social entrepreneurs who are making a huge different in their communities. We are currently working with Unltd, a prestigious social entrepreneurship incubator. Unltd is a one year programme, where they are developing social impact start-ups around environment, education, health/wellbeing and livelihoods.

You’ll get to work with start-ups who are at the early stages of their start-up journey (approx 1-3 years).

A former Hyderabad graduate says:

“When I came to Hyderabad I knew that I would be learning a lot from the _SocialStarters team. Between them these guys have an incredibly vast range of experience, wealth of knowledge and a unique, truly effective delivery style! What I hadn’t anticipated at all, however, is just how much I would also learn from my fellow consultants. We have the most incredible range of talent within the room, covering almost every topic you can imagine, from developers to entrepreneurs. It’s been incredible getting to know each persons background and I can tell that I will be lucky enough to gain something insightful from each one of them.”
