Job Description

POSITION: Adult Assistant – Bridgeport – Sherman Oaks campus

QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School diploma or equivalent and relevant experience in the field of special education.
• Must demonstrate capabilities in assisting with all aspects of classroom instruction, including teaching, implementing behavior plans, and controlling student behavior using a positive approach.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE:
• Ability to follow a client (by running and/or walking) who is experiencing significant behavioral problems or has become Absent Without Leave (AWOL) from the facility (clients can be up to six feet tall and weigh over 200 pounds).
• Ability to apply Hands on management techniques according to Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training Program (CPI).
• Be certified in (CPI), and use these procedures as needed according to school policy for situation control in a crisis.
• Assist the classroom teacher with all aspects of instruction in a special education classroom.
• Have and employ a working knowledge of each student’s Individual Education Plan (I.E.P.).
• Instruct individual and small group lessons as directed by the classroom teacher.
• Assist as needed during class lessons with behavior control, prompting, reinforcement, etc.
• Report any suspected child abuse immediately to the Dean of Students.
• Consult with Teacher and/or Dean of Students to alleviate behavioral problems on transportation.
• Perform duties as assigned by the classroom teacher, assisting with bulletin boards, materials preparation, etc.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Able to run after and/or walk quickly after a client.
• Able to provide crisis intervention and apply Hands on management techniques according to Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training Program (CPI) (clients can be over 6 feet tall and weigh over 200lbs).
• Able to sit on the floor, bend, stoop, kneel, squat, etc. for prolonged periods of time.
• Able to engage in all clients’ physical education activities and athletics, including running, jumping, standing, turning, twisting, etc
