Full-Time Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Benetech has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to be responsible for all financial matters of the organization and manage the finance staff. The CFO will report to the CEO, is a key member of the executive team, and works closely with the senior leadership and the board of directors to develop and implement strategies across the organization. The CFO will oversee all compliance for government (federal and state) contracts and private foundation grants. The CFO must be able to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and fast-paced workplace.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Drive the financial strategy for an exciting and complex nonprofit.
• Act as a key member of the executive management team.
• Supply the essential analysis to drive understanding of financial issues for the management team, including forecasts and plans, and lead the annual budget process.
• Be the essential resource for the Board of Directors in understanding key financial and risk management issues.
• Ensure the organization has the cash resources and needed financial strategies to enable it to prosper and grow.
• Act as the organization’s chief compliance officer ensuring that Benetech is meeting all of its obligations under nonprofit charity law, finance and accounting standards, commitments to government agencies and donors to assure the continued ability to meet the needs of disadvantaged communities.
• Lead the finance team, including accounting, legal, contracts and procurement, and ensure that they fully live up to the Benetech values of doing the right things right and doing more together.
• Communicate all things finance, ensuring that the annual audit and Form 990 timely, accurate, and understandable to all audiences.
• Represent Benetech as a leading financial voice in the field of social entrepreneurship and nonprofit management, and to larger constituencies such as the Silicon Valley tech community.
Qualifications
A seasoned and mature senior leader with the following experience and attributes:
• A minimum of a BS; a CPA and/or MBA would be a plus.
• Experience in a senior financial-management role, partnering with executive staff, resulting in the development and implementation of financial management strategies.
• Significant experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting preferred. Ideally would have awareness of government contracting obligations including indirect rate calculations and government contractor audit requirements.
• Experience working with information technology staff to utilize and configure finance and accounting software packages and/or online services.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organization skills.
