The Organization

Located in Seattle, Washington, The Raikes Foundation is a private family foundation founded by Tricia and Jeff Raikes, who remain actively involved in the Foundation’s work. With a staff team of eight people and annual grantmaking totaling eleven million dollars in 2015, the Raikes Foundation expects to double its annual grantmaking and staffing in the years ahead.

The mission of the Raikes Foundation is to empower young people to transform their lives. The Foundation’s three core grantmaking strategies include a regional strategy focused on ending youth and young adult homelessness in King County, a statewide strategy focused on improving the quality of after-school programs across Washington State, and a national K-12 education strategy.

The Opportunity

The Raikes Foundation is at an exciting moment in its organizational trajectory. The Foundation is gearing up for significant growth in the years ahead. A newly created position, the Chief of Staff, will be instrumental in ensuring the Foundation’s operational and team effectiveness as it grows.

The Chief of Staff will build and improve systems and processes, and provide the project management necessary to move projects forward, including setting goals and plans in place and tracking details. S/he is also able to provide analysis and advice on key issues to the Executive Director and coordinate the engagement of the Foundation’s Trustees. The Chief of Staff will act as a liaison between staff, the Executive Director, and the Trustees, providing internal and external communication, organization and team building support.

We seek candidates with experience working at a high level, with the ability to make sound judgments on behalf of the Foundation. The ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment while encouraging a positive team culture is essential. This role requires excellent organization, communication and diplomacy that will help the Foundation as it continues to grow.

Qualifications

Seven to ten years of professional experience is required. Previous experience providing operational support to senior leadership in a growing organization is valued. A bachelor’s degree is required; a relevant advanced degree is desired.

The position is based in Seattle, WA, but may require occasional domestic travel.
