The Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U), a program of the Clinton Global Initiative, brings together college students to address global challenges with practical, innovative solutions. CGI U participants do more than simply discuss problems – they take concrete steps to solve them by creating action plans, building relationships, participating in hands-on workshops, and following up with CGI U as they complete their projects. Since 2008, students have made more than 5,500 Commitments to Action. Previous CGI U meetings have taken place at Tulane University, the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Miami, the University of California at San Diego, the George Washington University, Washington University in St. Louis, and Arizona State University, and have convened more than 7,500 students from over 925 schools, 145 countries, and all 50 states. Overview:
The CGI University Program Fellow will be responsible for managing content development for CGI platforms as required, as well as determining the agenda for CGI University meetings and ensuring all program sessions are properly executed onsite. This includes developing session content; identifying, selecting, recruiting, and managing participation of speakers; providing creative direction for program sessions; managing speakers as necessary; assisting with overall messaging and external communications as necessary; managing up to 5 topic manager consultants hired to develop and execute breakout sessions; coordinating with colleagues interdepartmentally as necessary; managing processes and staff functions critical to effective execution of program as necessary; and ensuring timely and effective program-related follow up takes places as necessary. This role requires internal and external coordination, consultation, and collaboration.

The CGI University Program Fellow will work closely with the CGI University team and CGI’s program team. In addition to formal program duties, the CGI University Program Fellow will contribute to the broader strategy and scope of the CGI University program. This is a 2-year fixed term contract position.

Responsibilities:

1. Develop program for CGI University meeting

•CONTENT GENERATION: Develop, oversee, and/or manage content for all program sessions at CGI University, including plenary sessions, breakout sessions, networking sessions, and other special sessions and events as necessary; identify critical trends, themes, and topics and translate them into a cohesive recommendations memo; collaborate with colleagues to align/enhance content priorities with plenary sessions where possible. Supervise and manage up to 5 topic manager consultant who will oversee the breakout sessions including reviewing and editing all their work products.

•SPEAKER RESEARCH: Research and seek approval on speakers; manage speaker recruitment process to ensure the program is developing in a timely manner; work within the guidelines set by the organization in terms of composition of program participants, specifically meeting rigorous diversity criteria; work with appropriate internal teams to incorporate commitment makers, commitment stories, and platform supporters into the program; collaborate with program team colleagues to reduce speaker redundancies across platforms.

•CREATIVE DIRECTION: Research and pilot use and integration of interactive elements; designing innovative formatting ideas and planning for their proper execution; support innovations in commitment featuring; coordinate and liaise with appropriate teams on look and feel of event space to enhance program efficacy.

•EVENT PRODUCTION: Develop and manage session show flows; manage session timing; coordinate to ensure production leads have necessary program-related multimedia assets; conduct or support participant rehearsals as necessary; coordinate integration of special features, including Q/A, Twitter, broadcasting, etc. into programming; liaise with external vendors and partners, including media and technical partners, to appropriately organize logistical and production elements related to program.

•MEMBER SERVICES: Provide best-in-class member services to speakers; coordinate effectively with membership team throughout speaker recruitment, briefing, and onsite processes; work with membership team to identify opportunities to coordinate recruitment calls for speakers who are prospects; ensure speakers are provided timely follow up.

•SPEAKER MANAGEMENT: Draft speaker briefing materials and send on appropriate timeline; conduct pre-briefing calls with speakers or speaker staff; brief speakers onsite; provide any necessary follow-up with speakers after the event, including responding to their questions in a timely manner, assisting colleagues in reviewing thank you lists, etc.

•SPONSORSHIP: Support platform revenue generation process; participate in sponsorship pitches; engage sponsor staff in program planning process; identify opportunities for speaker placement as appropriate; coordinate effectively with sponsorship team throughout speaker recruitment, briefing, and onsite processes; manage program for sponsor topic dinners.

•PRINCIPAL ENGAGEMENT: Draft and manage the program decision memo process for principal and senior staff review; serve as lead program representative in decision memo review meetings with principals if necessary; brief principals onsite; coordinate regularly with principal staff teams to accommodate principal(s)priorities and incorporate principal(s)perspectives into programming and featuring.

2. Assist with special projects for CGI Program team
•Assist with creation of program-related memos when relevant.
•Assist with onsite logistics and event execution at the Annual Meeting when relevant.
•Brainstorm and disseminate new ways to promote and catalyze action among participants across all CGI brands.

3. Contribute to CGI University team-wide projects
•Assist with and give feedback on outreach, sponsorship, and commitments projects when necessary.
•Process CGI U meeting applications in the fall.
•Work with CGI U team to develop effective long-term strategy.

Minimum Qualifications:

•Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
•Minimum of five years of experience with general project management; strong preference given to researching, developing, and managing researching social and environmental impact issues, especially as these relate to youth engagement and the higher education sector.
•Strong knowledge of the higher education sector, contemporary global challenges, and the implementation of innovative social and/or environmental programs in the higher education, business, nonprofit, and public sectors.
•Experience in developing and managing relationships with diverse groups.
•Working knowledge of how students and universities are addressing pressing global challenges.
•Experience managing high-level participants.
•Strong writing and content generation skills.
•Solid relationship management and oral communication skills.
•Entrepreneurial spirit, with a flexibility to work with individuals with varying work styles.
•Ability to adapt and work within a multicultural, multilingual, multidisciplinary environment.
•Demonstrated ability to acquire understanding and absorb new information rapidly.
•Self-driven, results-oriented with a positive outlook.
•Plans, organizes, schedules, and budgets in an efficient, productive manner.
•Willingness to work in an “all hands on deck” environment, and engage in a variety of tasks.
•A natural forward planner who critically assesses own performance.
•Knowledge of Excel and basic statistics required.

Preferred Qualifications:

•Previous experience managing staff or consultants highly preferred.
•Event planning experience preferred.
•Corporate experience or public-private partnership experience helpful.
•Knowledge of BBCRM (or other relational databases) preferred.

Physical and Other Requirements:

•Significant computer work, which may require repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
•May require travel, which may require walking distances, lifting & carrying luggage and boxes, and prolonged periods of sitting in tight quarters.
•Occasional lifting (greater than 50 lbs.), bending, pulling, collating/filing, and occasional lifting, carrying, and/or moving boxes, files, etc., some of which could be heavy or require the use of carts.
