Yunus Social Business is recruiting for one (1) full-time or part-time position as a Communications Consultant starting in May 2015.

Yunus Social Business (YSB) is a social business accelerator, focusing on incubating and financing social businesses globally. A social business is a new kind of company that combines the strengths of both the social development and the business world. It is created with the sole purpose to solve a social problem – like NGOs – but to do so in a financially sustainable way – like businesses.

YSB was co-founded by Nobel Peace Laureate Muhammad Yunus, founder of the microfinance organization Grameen Bank, as well as a variety of social businesses in Bangladesh and worldwide. A social business ourselves, we report directly to Professor Yunus, and we are part of the Grameen network of over 40 social businesses and more than 50,000 employees.

We at YSB are currently a global team of 40 people with experience in entrepreneurship, consulting, venture capital, business incubation, finance and international development. YSB further has a large pool of expert volunteer consultants that contribute to its global and local operations.

Our main office is in Frankfurt, Germany and we have an on-the-ground presence through our local country teams in Albania, Haiti, Brazil, Colombia, Tunisia, India, and Uganda.

Our core business is the incubation and financing of social businesses in the following manner:
• We design and implement incubation and/or accelerator programs in our local countries to search for, coach and mentor entrepreneurs to create strong, investment-ready social businesses
• We also serve as a financing vehicle for the most promising social businesses in a defined geographic area (country, region or city), using a methodology similar to those used in the venture capital space
• We further provide on-going advice and support post-investment, including a peer-to-peer exchange with other social business entrepreneurs.

Main responsibilities of the Communications Consultant

We are looking for a full-time or part-time Communications Consultant starting from May 2015 for a minimum of 12 months, based in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. An expense allowance (Aufwandsentschädigung) will be provided for this part-time position.


The Communications Consultant will report to the Partnerships Team. His/her responsibilities include, but will not be limited to:

• Develop and implement communications and content strategy for YBS to grow and strengthen YSB’s brand worldwide
• Create, curate, and manage communications and marketing materials on YSB, its initiatives and social businesses;
• Write and deliver engaging, appealing and creative communications for YSB partners and supporters
• Plan and deliver press releases on various YSB events around the world
• Manage YSB’s social media, website and communication platforms, including updates with latest news and activity updates, and improvement of reach and performance
• Act as the go-to person for all social media related enquiries from internal and external stakeholders
• Identify and establish relationships with relevant media partners
• Drive development and delivery of quarterly newsletter
• Drive creation of YSB’s annual report
• Liaise with YSB country offices to streamline and improve YSB’s communication efforts
• Provide advice and support to other YSB team members and country offices on communications, including leading communications team calls with country teams
• Other, more project-specific tasks may also be part of your role, depending on needs and availability

Qualifications of the candidate
An ideal candidate should display the following qualities, skills, and experience:

• Work experience in the field of communications or marketing (freelancer, agency or in-house role)
• Experience in journalism or related field required (writing, editing, proof-reading)
• Social media savvy, either as a social media manager or with your own presence
• Knowledge of and passion for social business and social entrepreneurship ideal, including knowledge of current trends in the sector
• Entrepreneurial spirit; initiative driven and possessing creativity and attention to detail
• Excellent time management and oral and written communication skills. You should be able to manage projects independently without a lot of guidance, and to be able to manage several projects at the same time under time pressure;
• Enjoy working with a small team in a flexible and fast-paced environment
• Excellent PowerPoint skills; experience in Photoshop or InDesign ideal
• Proficient written and oral English; German an advantage
