Position: Community editor
Location: New York, NY

Chalkbeat New York, the nonprofit news organization covering New York City public schools, is seeking a community editor to lead our efforts to grow readership and create conversation around our reporting.

Responsibilities will include:
Soliciting reader involvement and feedback
Planning and executing in-person events, and coordinating communication with our sponsorship team as needed
Leading our bureau’s social media strategy
Creating partnerships to help distribute our content
Writing about our engagement efforts
Coming up with your own ideas about how we can reach more readers with smart coverage of education issues

The right candidate
You have some experience in education, journalism, or just getting things done. You’re a pro at using social media, you’ve taken a big project from start to finish, and you’re used to coming up with your own ideas. You love the idea of working at a startup because you will have a voice in the way the organization – and your job – gets defined. And most importantly, you see great value in our mission of giving people the reporting they need to make informed decisions about education issues in New York City.
