Organization and Position Overview

Muso is a global health organization working in Mali. We believe that every person has the right to access health care, and we are committed to designing innovative health care systems to make that right a reality. Our mission is to eliminate preventable deaths in the world’s most vulnerable communities. After having demonstrated success in our current area of intervention, we are planning to replicate our innovative health care system in rural Mali with a view toward taking our model to scale. We are seeking a motivated design professional with a talent for creating current and beautifully designed visual content, online and offline. Muso is going through an exciting period of growth. We are looking for someone who can visually present Muso’s work in a way that communicates our groundbreaking impact, tells the story of our model, engages global partners to catalyze Muso’s scale-up, and accelerates efforts to save millions of lives. We need those we engage to connect with people they have never met before, understand the transformative impact they can make, and become inspired to take action. The Creative Director visually tells the story of our purpose, our model, and our impact, of the change that is possible for us to create together with the global community. The Creative Director will also work closely with the Director of Development and Communications to ensure that Muso’s message is powerfully and regularly communicated to the broader public by participating in online communications and social media.

Previously, Muso’s US office was managed by a single staff person and volunteers. This position will be part of a newly created four-member US team based in San Francisco. The Creative Director will report directly to the newly created position of Director of Development and Communications.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Creative Director (CD) will include, but are not limited to:

Branding & Graphic Design

The Creative Director will complete Muso’s branding process so that our logo and messaging can be used across an array of online and offline communications. Applying written content developed with the Director of Development and Communications, the CD will be responsible for designing and publishing the following:

Digital:

• Muso’s new website (English and French versions)
• E-mail newsletters and campaigns
• Social media pages (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Google+, etc.)
• Online advertising
• Video

Print:

• Compelling introductory materials
• Quarterly impact report
• Grant and partner reports
• Annual reports
• Proposals to partners and funders
• Letterhead, envelopes and business cards
• Posters and other promotional materials

Additionally, the CD will support the CEO and Director of Development and Communications to prepare visuals for public speaking engagements, funder presentations, as well as board and staff meetings.

Social Media

The Creative Director will identify and use social media channels to amplify Muso’s message. Specifically s/he will:

• Collaborate with the Director of Development and Communications to create and implement a social media strategy
• Design and publish content on Muso’s Twitter, Facebook and other social media accounts
• Design and create dynamic content for Muso’s website, soliciting contributions from Muso team members and in collaboration with the Director of Development and Communications
• Identify other online fora related to global health, development, and philanthropy, collaborating with the Director of Development and Communications to make contributions
• Support the Director of Development and Communications in media outreach efforts

Other

The Creative Director will also contribute to other administrative and fundraising projects as determined by the Director of Development and Communications.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Demonstrated past experience with branding, marketing and graphic design (examples of past work are requested)
• Experience using and designing for social media
• Experience developing website design and content, and preparing e-communications
• French proficiency a plus

• A passion for social justice, global health equity, and eliminating preventable deaths in the world’s most vulnerable communities
• Highly organized and attentive to detail. A perfectionist when it comes to creating powerful visual content.
• A dynamic and creative visual storyteller
• Able to balance multiple tasks from multiple sources, remaining calm amidst the fast-paced work atmosphere of a rapidly growing global health organization
• Able to work independently and take initiative
• Able to work effectively and sensitively across cultures
• Flexible in schedule and willing to pour your heart and soul into the work
• Adaptability, patience and a sense of humor

This exempt full-time position will be based in San Francisco. Salary DOE.
