Full-Time Development and Communications Director

DESCRIPTION
IATP (www.iatp.org) seeks a full-time Development and Communications Director to secure resources to support a $1.4 million annual budget including foundation fundraising (primary source), individual giving by direct appeal, online giving, endowment, major gifts and other funding sources as they emerge. The Development and Communications Director tailors IATP’s message about its mission, work and values for multiple audiences including current and potential donors, advocacy partners, researchers and readers of IATP’s website, publications and social media.

The successful candidate will have a background working in nonprofit fundraising and development, be committed to social change and have fantastic writing, editing and communications skills. The candidate will also bring enthusiasm and creative thinking to this newly defined position, strengthening IATP’s development and communications capacity. The Development and Communications Director works under the supervision of the Executive Director. This is an exempt position.

The highly preferred location for this position is IATP’s main office in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A remote location may be considered for extraordinary candidates.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan and coordinate annual development strategy, and with ED, report progress to the board
Research, collect, process and maintain funder information and foundation guidelines in an extensive fundraising database and file system
Ensure timely responses to fundraising deadlines, spot emergent opportunities and help staff to ensure grant obligation fulfillment
Prepare schedules for pending grants, proposals and report deadlines
Prepare annual calendar of funder association conferences and assist ED in IATP participation
Produce LOIs, proposals, reports, cultivation materials, solicitations and acknowledgments in partnership with the ED and other staff
Manage and coordinate individual donor files, database (eTapestry) and mailings
Process donations and acknowledgments
Oversee production and distribution of IATP marketing materials
Oversee continuity of messaging to multiple audiences in publications and online presence
Work with program staff and ED on press releases and other direct media outreach
Provide editorial oversight as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum five years fundraising and communications experience
Fantastic written and oral communication skills and ability to target and write for different audiences
Deep appreciation for quality, accuracy and relevance of IATP communications
Creative approach to online fundraising
Experience securing, tracking, and reporting on government grants, foundation grants and major donor development
Well-organized, self-motivated and ambitious
Laser-like attention to detail
Skilled in database management
Keen interest in working with a diverse group of people in a creative environment
Curiosity in building cooperative fundraising approaches with like-minded organizations
High-level competency in editing
Keen interest in and commitment to learning about sustainable agriculture, just food systems, and trade policy
Experience in event organizing a plus
