Full-Time Director of Finance and Operations

SimuSolar Inc. – Posted by mwalpert Oakland, California, United States

Job Description

SimuSolar is a start-up company based in Oakland, CA and Mwanza, Tanzania. It is a social, for-profit venture dedicated to improving the lives of rural Africans by offering affordable renewable electricity systems for homes and small businesses. We are building a company with social impact that is scalable and attractive to those who care about both financial and social returns.

SimuSolar has developed a rent-to-own solar-power package for rural Africans who do not have access to electricity. We have a proprietary mobile-money payment program and are partnered with an experienced equipment manufacturer. The first systems are currently being deployed for field testing in Tanzania. SimuSolar is poised for enormous growth over the next few years as we are planning to expand rapidly into neighboring countries. As a young start up, we are looking for an exceptional individual who is highly motivated to join on the adventurous path of shaping and growing the company.

The Director of Finance and Operations will be responsible for managing SimuSolar US operations, including logistics and third-party manufacturing, and the company’s corporate and project financing. The initial focus will be on attracting additional start-up capital for SimuSolar following its initial seed round several months ago. As a socially responsible venture, there are numerous public and private organizations making early-stage capital available as grants and loans. In addition, our rent-to-own business model will require risk-friendly project financing capital. The Director of Finance and Operations will report to the CEO, and will also have the opportunity to work closely with one of our experienced financial advisors.

Compensation will initially consist of a modest, below-market base salary and an attractive equity position in the company.
