Full-Time Executive Director

Job Description

Established in 1977, River House Adult Day Center is one of the largest adult day care centers in Connecticut. Its mission is to support and enrich the quality of life for seniors living with age-related needs and impairments in a safe and nurturing environment.
Current services include:
Customized daytime programs and services that stimulate intellectual, physical and emotional well-being.
Professional monitoring of health and personal care needs.
Counsel and peace of mind for caregivers and families.

The Executive Director (ED) of River House (RH) is responsible for: day-to-day management, operations, and leadership of the facility and staff; oversight and protection of its financial and physical assets; and ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies. S/he manages the staff and works to ensure effective working relationships at all levels of the organization. The ED reports directly to the Board Chair and is responsible to the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors. S/he will be responsible for fostering an environment of compassionate care with the highest quality staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership
Assure that River House works effectively to achieve the goals outlined in its strategic plan.
Provide leadership in developing and implementing programmatic, organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors.
Build a strong team as well as develop and mentor staff.
Serve as the agency’s representative to the media and community.
Provide strategies to the Board for improving fund raising and outreach efforts.

Human Resources
Maintain a culture that encourages and engages top quality staff.
Oversee the recruitment, training, and supervision of all personnel.
Ensure all staff members receive an annual performance review.

Financial Management
Develop the annual budget and report to the Board to ensure compliance with standard financial reporting and audit guidelines.
Ensure sound fiscal practices are followed.
Ensure legal and regulatory compliance with all contracts.

Communications and Public Relations
Serve as the primary contact to the media and community to deliver a positive message regarding the organization’s mission and services.
In conjunction with the board and staff, build and maintain RH’s reputation and brand recognition.

Fundraising and Development
In collaboration with the Board, work to optimize the fund raising efforts to support the budget and supplement the operating expenses of River House as necessary.
Oversee planning and execution of annual appeal and special events.

Board Governance
Work collaboratively with the President and board members to set strategic direction.
Attend board meetings and provide monthly reports regarding operations and finance with respect to the direction of strategic plan.
Assist with the orientation of new Board members.

QUALIFICATIONS
A creative thinker with the ability to envision a new strategic direction for River House
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
10 years of management experience ideally in a non-profit organization.
Experience in elder care/or a similar setting providing compassionate services.
Understanding of Medicare and Medicaid regulations as they apply to River House.
Success building collaborative partnerships and relationships.
Demonstrated success in fund raising.
Strong communications and interpersonal skills.

CORE COMPETENCIES

Nonprofit Healthcare Experience
Experience with Medicaid and Medicaid reimbursement.
Proven track record in fundraising and a history of building strong donor relationships.
Experience working with and building a nonprofit Board.

Program Management
Experience in program management, program expansion & growth.
Proven management and leadership skills with the ability to build strong teams as well as develop and mentor staff.

Business Management
Strong financial acumen and budget management experience including the ability to operate on tight margins.
Knowledge of operations, facility, and capital planning.
Credentials and experience in elder care/or a similar setting of compassionate service, as well as the ability to foster an environment of compassion.
Technological savvy.
Community Engagement
Experience in developing strong community presence with the ability to speak to a variety of constituencies as well as work in diverse communities.
History of building community partnerships and collaborations.
An effective spokesperson and fundraiser who is comfortable in the public eye including public speaking and media relations, as well as one-on-one with donors or potential partners.
Experience working in the Tri-State areas.
