Full-Time Executive Network Director

Job Description

The Executive Network Director will report to the MS Advisory Council and have the following set of direct and operational oversight responsibilities:

Public engagement. Develop and deliver motivating direct and broad-based public communications to successfully generate interest, celebrate success and attract new people and institutions to the MenloSpark effort.

Program development and execution. Create and prioritize implementation of effective pilot programs with the city, businesses and residents; scale successful programs across the community; monitor and evaluate progress.

Operational efficiency and management. Develop and grow a highly-efficient, virtual organizational infrastructure with superior support and coordination among MS VOLUNTEER NETWORK, MS ADVISORY COUNCIL, MS LEADERSHIP GROUP to include: A: Superior on-line presence; B: Limited physical infrastructure; C: Low cost administrative needs; D: Transparent/accessible/responsive stance within the community. Will need to manage a distributed network across the community and partner organizations.

Catalyze constituencies. Build and motivate an expanding network of neighborhood volunteers, reach and inspire to action a wide array of local business and institutions, establish trusted partnerships with City Council, City staff and other community leaders, develop and utilize a community engagement and network map to reach residents and influential community groups for collaboration. Leverage the self-identified ‘Friends of MenloSpark’ as a source for volunteers in a variety of roles (e.g. leading a neighborhood initiative, organizing speakers for public meetings, staffing an informational table at the Farmers’ Market, etc.)

Fundraising. The core budget will be in place for three years; expect to work with the advisory board to fill out budget and attract philanthropic and individual donors.

Analysis and Research. Develop a program for and deliver to key constituencies ongoing analytical and research excellence. This includes developing programs for implementation, policies for adoption by business and government and also a system for monitoring progress, identifying priories and adaptive management of the work.

Technical Assistance. Directly and through the network deliver high-impact technical support, advice and answers tailored to the needs of city government staff, operational decision-makers in businesses and other local institutions and through a volunteer network to city residents and community groups.

Networking beyond Menlo Park. Engage with neighboring communities in climate action initiatives (e.g. work with Palo Alto and RWC to improve transit connectivity and usage); develop relationships with effective leaders and advocates from other towns and cities; coordinate cross-community engagement when vital for greater success in Menlo Park.

Executive Network Director Capabilities and Experience

• Strong knowledge of climate change issues and mitigation programs and policies.
• Proven record of organizing diverse constituencies for collective action.
• Effective and motivating interpersonal and public communicator.
• Successful manager of distributed network of volunteers and resources.
• Efficient and thorough oversight of operations and budgets.
• Superior analytical skills and strategic insight.
• More than ten years of related experience and/or an established network in the Menlo Park/Peninsula/Bay Area a plus.
• Able to work in own space. Because MenloSpark is a network, there is no office space.
• Self-sufficient in the IT space. Knowledge of customer relationship management (CRM) software a plus
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree required. Training in non-profit admin, community organizing, public policy, or related fields is desirable.

Compensation

MenloSpark is prepared to offer a competitive compensation package, flexible schedule, and generous time off. Although candidates from beyond the Bay Area are welcome to apply, funds are not available for relocation or housing assistance.
