Job Title: Field Lead- Seasonal

Eagle Springs Organic is a 1600 acre USDA certified organic farm and ranch located in Silt, CO that grows a variety of fruits and vegetables throughout the year in both field and greenhouse production. Eagle Springs will be growing approximately 130 acres of vegetable production in the field for the 2015 growing season. Eagle Springs utilizes solar energy, integrated pest management, and other techniques such as cover cropping as part of our mission to grow food in a more responsible and sustainable way. It is our mission to provide local, certified organic produce to Colorado communities throughout the state using environmentally conscious growing practices.

Job Description:
Field leads will monitor and be responsible for their own field crew. They will be responsible for managing and facilitating their crew’s progress with daily tasks, assuring the availability of water for their crew throughout the day, as well as monitoring and setting up harvest/field equipment. Field leads will lead and organize their crews in completing tasks such as harvesting, weeding, seeding, transplanting, field packing, daily farm operating procedures, and work on various farm projects. Individuals must have a good work ethic and be able to “keep the pace” when leading their crew in farm tasks, instructing and directing members of their crew. Field leads will report directly to the Field Manager for daily operation tasks, issues with crew members, concerns etc.

Expectations/ Qualifications:
– Individual must have at least 1 year experience in vegetable farming.
– Management experience is preferred but not necessary.
– Ability to communicate in Spanish is preferable but not necessary.
– Individual must be assertive and have strong verbal as well as written communication skills. Field leads must be able to listen and clearly communicate with members of his/her field crew; assigning individuals tasks, explaining instructions, and offering constructive criticism. Field leads must also relay information and actively communicate with the field manager and receiving manager.
– Individual must be organized and have excellent time management skills.
– Individual must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions, arriving at work prepared and dressed appropriately for the weather.
– Individual must be able to stand for several hours at a time, working with speed and efficiency. Field leads must work fast enough to “keep the pace” for their crew.
– Many tasks may require a large amount of repetition, individual must be able to perform repetitive tasks quickly and efficiently.
– Individual must be able to endure working in a bent over position for long stretches of time while maintaining speed and efficiency.
– Heavy and frequent lifting may be required on a daily basis. Individual must be able to lift 50 pounds.
– Individual must be able to work well in a team with others as well as independently.
– Individuals must have a positive attitude! A passion for farming and organic produce is also a plus!

Hours and Compensation:
Seasonal Field Lead positions for the summer/fall of 2015 will start work in early May or June and work through the harvest season ending in late October. Work hours will average between 40-60 hours per week. Pay is hourly starting wage depending on experience. Pay period is bi-weekly. Employees will be given access to surplus produce. This is a seasonal position, however; Eagle Springs Organic is operational year-round and opportunities for year-round employment could be offered to outstanding individuals who show they are a good fit and are dedicated to the Eagle Springs Organic mission.
