A leading community development financial institution (CDFI) with over $300 million in assets under management, NFF has provided $575 million in financing and access to additional capital in support of over $1.5 billion in projects for thousands of organizations nationwide. In partnership with others, we’ve generated $16 million for nonprofits for building and cash reserves, and endowments through our multi-year asset-building program, BFF. We’ve also provided loan guarantees and recovery, capital and planning grants.

Each year, we work with hundreds of nonprofits providing education and financial advice and tools to improve their financial understanding and health, and we partner with foundations across the country to develop solutions for organizations’ most pressing issues.

NFF is building a versatile team that has the diverse skills to deliver our products and the entrepreneurial approach and flexibility to support and drive NFF’s growth and innovation. NFF works nationally and our staff is located across five offices in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Managing Director of Knowledge & Impact (K&I), the Impact Manager is responsible for advancing NFF’s impact measurement efforts. This is a unique leadership opportunity to spearhead thinking and strategy in the field of social sector impact measurement and bolster NFF’s position as a pioneer and teacher for the nonprofit industry. The Impact Manager will define a framework and help NFF determine the right ways to measure and manage the organization’s theory of change, ensuring the widespread adoption and understanding of this theory both within NFF and by external stakeholders. This position will organize, coordinate, and improve upon NFF’s impact measurement processes, and develop new processes and measurements where needed. The Impact Manager must be passionate, experienced, and entrepreneurial, with excellent communication skills. This position will serve as a resource and teacher to NFF staff while working to translate our theory of change into accessible insights, helping NFF achieve and scale its potential for impact.

The Impact Manager is part of the fast-moving and highly collaborative K&I team that is responsible for overseeing a variety of outreach, communications, data, and research-related projects.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Work with NFF staff and leadership to fully understand and organize NFF’s current impact measurement efforts.
Collaborate with staff in order to establish an evaluation roadmap to adequately capture and analyze the impact of NFF’s work.
Undertake direction and upgrade of NFF’s impact measurement function; develop innovative methods to analyze and measure the social impact of NFF’s clients.
Help define, design framework for, and determine the appropriate ways to measure NFF’s theory of change.
Develop and publish an NFF impact report card for both internal and external use.
Manage the process and writing of impact-related aspects of reports that are externally required of NFF for funders, the CDFI Fund, etc.
Assist with design, implementation, analysis, and reporting on an impact measurement framework and processes for large initiatives.
Stay abreast of new methods and trends for social impact measurement, record NFF’s impact measurement learning process, and take initiative to build and sustain collaborative partnerships and external opportunities.
Work closely with the Salesforce Manager and business teams to track and report on impact data; respond to internal and external impact data requests.
Disseminate impact-oriented thinking into NFF’s culture, via production of internal reports, newsletters, webinars, etc.
Represent NFF externally on impact measurement matters, via writing and occasional speaking.
Act as advisor, teacher, and resource for NFF staff on impact measurement for NFF and clients.
Contribute to NFF’s bi-annual State of Nonprofit Sector Survey.
Establish policies and procedures within the K&I department consistent with NFF’s mission and vision, and incorporate CDFI best practices into the impact measurement work stream.
Other duties as needed or required.

Essential Requirements for Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree required in business, finance, public administration, or related field.
At least five (5) years of nonprofit sector experience, whether at a nonprofit or in a consulting capacity, with demonstrated experience in monitoring/evaluation/impact measurement.
Familiar with innovative evaluation and results frameworks.
Excellent oral communication and presentation skills.
Self-directed, with the ability to work independently as well as collaborate with a wide range of internal and external partners.
Able to translate complex ideas into action, and funnel research and impact data into improved strategies and processes.
Capable of communicating complex impact measurement ideas to others, and providing teaching/guidance on this topic to others.
Able to use discretion and judgment when dealing with confidential information and/or issues.

Specialized Knowledge/Beneficial Skills and Experience:

Advanced degree preferred (Masters in Public Administration, Masters in Public Policy, Non-Profit Management, or MBA), or equivalent experience.
Previous experience with Salesforce.
Excellent writing skills.
Attention to detail and ability to prioritize among competing responsibilities.
Familiar with impact investing and/or Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs).
High tolerance for ambiguity and a deep sense of curiosity and creativity.
