COMPANY OVERVIEW

WISE Silicon Valley (WISE SV) develops and operates workforce integration social enterprises that provide consumer products and services while employing adults with barriers to full-time traditional employment. In addition to on-the-job training experiences, WISE SV also provides its employees with case management services that address their specific needs. As such, WISE SV operates as a sustainable and holistic solution for creating value-added opportunities in traditional employment for those with employment barriers. In 2015, WISE SV will be launching its first “for-profit, for-good” café and catering company.

WISE SV is a new joint venture social enterprise between two nonprofits – CALSO and JobTrain. CALSO (www.calso.co) is a nonprofit developing innovative social business models in California, based on Groupe SOS’ expertise (a 30-year old French social enterprise), and JobTrain (www.jobtrainworks.org) is a 50 year old San Francisco Bay Area nonprofit focused on workforce development through vocational training, academics, and essential skills development. WISE SV and its subsidiaries are structured as a corporation and limited liability companies.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Joint Venture Director will play an integral part in the operational execution of the WISE SV’s social enterprises and the strategic direction of its future opportunities. This position’s will serve as the primary point of contact for all matters associated with WISE SV’s administration, and will collaborate closely with subsidiary managers to support and monitor individual business performance. This is a multi-functional role for an entrepreneurial self-starter that is looking for a career in social enterprise.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Joint Venture Director will ensure the proper functioning of WISE SV and its subsidiary social enterprises. The position must be comfortable with managing and coordinating multiple functions of an organization. Specific activities include:

Operations
– Directs, administers, and coordinates the internal operational activities of the organization in accordance with policies, goals, and objectives established by the Board of Directors.
– Leads and directs the following functions: operations, finances, human resources, information systems, legal, new business coordination.
– Coordinates with CALSO and JobTrain in setting up marketing and communication strategy and plans.
– Develops organization policies and goals that cover operations, personnel, financial performance, and growth of new and existing social enterprises.
– Identifies and coordinates with vendors providing WISE SV and its subsidiaries with administrative services.
– Appraises and evaluates the results of overall operations regularly and systematically, and reports these results to the Board of Directors and to external partners (as needed).
– Insures that all activities and operations are performed in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws governing business operations.

Financial
– Plans, develops, organizes, implements, directs and evaluates the organization’s fiscal function and performance.
– Oversees budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash flow for administration, existing social enterprises, and proposed new social enterprises.
– Develops monthly and annual financial reports and dashboards that provide subsidiaries and the Board of Directors with information on financial performance.
– Monitors the financial performance of subsidiary social enterprises and recommends adjustments to meet financial objectives, constraints, or opportunities.
– Coordinates with external vendors (as needed) on financial management needs, including invoicing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll.

Strategic
– Provides strong visionary leadership and support to the Board of Directors and staff to ensure benchmarks are met, goals are accomplished, and mission is achieved.
– Works with the Board of Directors and staff to create a multi-year strategic plan. Ensure a holistic, participatory, collaborative approach that meets operational needs of WISE SV and its subsidiaries.
– Collaborates with JobTrain, CALSO, and the Board of Directors in fundraising during the startup of new social enterprises by building relationships with prospective supporters, leading cultivation processes, and securing grant and investment capital.
– Coordinates with JobTrain and CALSO in the identification and development of new social enterprise opportunities.
– Services as a WISE SV representative with various stakeholders, including participation at external events and functions.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

– A Bachelors Degree in a relevant field.
– At least 8 years of progressively responsible experience within a business or nonprofit.
– Demonstrated leadership working in a fast-moving environment, resourcefully setting priorities, raising capital, and participating in multiple lines of business.
– Ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends, and incorporate them into the organizational plan.
– Ability to effectively build organization and staff capacity, developing a top-notch team and the processes that ensure the organization runs smoothly.
– Exceptional capacity for managing and leading people; ability to connect staff both on an individual level and in groups; capacity to enforce accountability, develop and empower others
– Experience with a broad range of business functions and processes, including strategic planning, operations, financial management, budgeting, and sales.
– Ability to build and maintain relationships with a vast network of individuals from different backgrounds, opinions, and interest areas that can contribute to the overall work of the organization and its goals.
– Ability to work in a multicultural and international environment, involving partners and colleagues from different background and experience.
– Advanced expertise with Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and CRM systems.
– Effective written, verbal, and public speaking skills.

Desired Qualifications
– A graduate degree in a relevant field
– Experience as a senior leader in a startup environment or an entrepreneurial organization on a growth trajectory.
– Experience with social enterprise and workforce development strategies.
– Prior experience working with international organizations and advisors.
– Exposure working with food-related/ culinary businesses and nonprofits.
