Office Manager for Yunus Social Business – Global Initiatives

Yunus Social Business (YSB) is an international advisory and implementation company focussing on creating and investing in social businesses worldwide. A social business is a new kind of organization that combines the strengths of both civil society and the business world. Social businesses have a social or environmental mission – like NGOs – but are financially self-sustainable – like businesses. YSB was co-founded by Saskia Bruysten, Sophie Eisenmann, and Nobel Peace Laureate Muhammad Yunus, founder of the microfinancing organization Grameen Bank as well as a variety of Social Businesses in Bangladesh and worldwide.

We at YSB are currently a team of 40 people with backgrounds in strategy consulting, venture capital, entrepreneurship, civil society, and international development. A social business ourselves, we report directly to Prof. Yunus, and we are part of the Grameen network of over 40 social businesses and more than 50,000 employees. Grameen/Yunus projects, in microfinance and in social business, have been implemented in more than 50 countries around the world. Our main office is in Frankfurt, Germany; our country offices include Albania, Haiti, Brazil, Colombia, Tunisia, India, and Uganda.

We have two main fields of activity: Implementation and management of Social business incubator funds, and Social business advisory services. Activities in the area of Social business incubator fund specifically are the following:

• We design and implement programmes to generate, strengthen and scale up social business ideas in a defined geographic area (country, region or city).
• The cornerstones of each programme are a social business incubator (e.g. identifying and helping to develop high-potential social business ideas or pilots) and an investment fund for social businesses (the methodologies are similar to those used by venture capital).
• We also deploy social business plan competitions and other activities that help to generate awareness and enthusiasm, and ultimately feed into the pipeline of new social business entrepreneurs and projects.
• We are currently implementing incubator funds / movements in Haiti, Tunisia and Albania, with upcoming programmes in Brazil, Colombia, India and Uganda.


Main responsibilities of the Office Manager:

The Office Manager will be based in Frankfurt, Germany.

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Administration
o Administer the Germany-based companies (this includes working closely with the tax advisor, banks, insurances etc.; governing all invoice documents)
o Develop and implement day to day processes and documents
o Solve problems / questions of day-to-day work (including dealing with various suppliers)
o Assist in setting up new companies
o Prepare and execute documents of different kinds
o Office management

• Finances and Accounting
o Record all financial documents (invoices, credit card statements etc.) on a weekly basis and coordinate with external tax advisers
o Handle, execute and track payments; issue invoices; administer project codes
o Coordinate with Director of Finance & Operations
o Hold financial overview over German-based companies, manage cash levels and interact with CFO
o Coordinate with “Deutsche Bundesbank”
o Further develop and optimize cash management tools

• Human Resources
o Support of all employees of YSB Group, especially volunteers
o Issuing contracts, registering employees with (tax) authorities
o Supervising recruiting of volunteers/long-term employees
o Initiate salary payments and related paper work
o Administer volunteer apartment
o Assisting in Visa questions
o Coordination & support of the entire team

• Assistant to CFO and CEO
o Coordinating appointments of CEO and CFO
o Organization of events on YSB side (World Economic Forum, Clinton Global Initiative, Social Business Day,…)
o Checking interviews / articles
o Preparation of meetings

• Social Media, Website and other IT
o Post regular updates on Facebook and Twitter, manage pages
o Update Website / Work together with web designers, manage Website
o Administration of IT system and domain of YSB
o Supervise and execute CRM/Newsletter

• Any other activities dealing with the day-to-day or long-term business and serving the purpose of advancing the Yunus Social Business Group.

Qualifications of the candidate:
Candidates should display the following qualities, skill, and experience:
• Degree in economics, business administration, financial management or related fields;
• Previous work experience a plus;
• Fluent written and oral German and English;
• Extremely structured and organized
• Self-learner;
• Hands-on and implementation attitude;
• Ability to handle several tasks at once;
• Patent, polite and good manners;
• Demonstrated excellent communication and presentation skills and team work spirit;
• Highly motivated to the cause and to the tasks;
• Interest in Social Business and Yunus Social Business;
• Knowledge of basic accounting and cash management a plus.
