Organization Description
Build Change (www.buildchange.org) is an international non-profit social enterprise that designs earthquake-resistant houses in developing countries and trains builders, homeowners, engineers and government officials to build them. Build Change’s designs are affordable, culturally appropriate, and use materials and techniques that will continue to be used after our intervention is finished. Build Change has ongoing post-earthquake housing reconstruction programs in West Sumatra, Indonesia and Sichuan, China. So far, Build Change has improved the design and/or construction of over 20,000 houses worldwide.

Build Change has been operating since 2004 in Indonesia, where its team of Indonesian technical professionals has trained over 500 builders in safe construction techniques and contributed to the construction of more than 16,000 safer homes. Build Change has also partnered with the Indonesian government and the NGO community to develop earthquake-resistant design and construction guidelines and simple messages about safe construction. Build Change has also been working in Haiti since the 2010 earthquake, training our own technical staff and that of other organizations to improve damaged but salvageable buildings through seismic retrofit evaluation, design, and construction supervision and training builders to build them safely. Now, following the 15 October earthquake and the Typhoon Yolanda in the Central Visayas region of the Philippines, Build Change has been asked to provide technical consulting for the permanent reconstruction effort.

Build Change is a US-based 501(c)(3) non-profit in operation since 2004. Build Change has won grants from Echoing Green, Draper Richards Foundation, Mulago Foundation and Ashoka-Lemelson. and was named a 2008 Laureate in the Equality Category for Technology Benefiting Humanity by the San Jose Tech Museum of Innovation Tech Awards. Build Change’s work has been featured on abcNEWS World News Tonight, BBC Website, National Public Radio All Things Considered and the New York Times.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Partnership Development, Impact Monitoring and Reporting Manager – Haiti

For the position of Partnership Development, Impact Monitoring and Reporting Manager in Haiti, Build Change is seeking an experienced, innovative, outgoing individual with a proven track record of raising funds, winning contracts and building brand recognition for an international non-profit social enterprise. The successful candidate should have documented success in writing grants and writing and winning technical, detailed grant and contract proposals for donors such as USAID, American Red Cross and others. Proposal writing is a strong plus.

This position reports to the Haiti Country Director and to the Director of Program Expansion in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Responsibilities:

Partnership Development
Do grant and award research, write proposals in English, French or Spanish, and secure funding from partner agencies for Build Change’s program in Haiti and in the broader Latin America & Caribbean region.
Support the Haiti Country Director and the Director for Program Expansion in Latin America and the Caribbean to build relationships with partner institutions and market Build Change’s design services, technical resources, and training programs to other humanitarian, multi-lateral, and non-profit agencies.
Prepare and submit fund development pipeline reports and partnership tracking reports to Haiti Country Director and Director for Program Expansion in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Use and regularly update Salesforce, Constant Contact, and other donor databases and marketing tools.
Work closely with program management, structural engineering team leader and construction training team leader to produce on-time, high quality grant and progress reports.
Create professional marketing packet aimed at INGOs, UN and other agencies rebuilding houses in earthquake-prone developing countries.
Represent Build Change in networks and meetings with such organizations, such as Cluster meetings.

Impact Monitoring and Reporting
Mentor Build Change’s IMR staff in Haiti to expand and improve impact monitoring systems for Build Change’s technical assistance and training programs in Haiti
Expand existing monitoring, evaluation and reporting strategy for Haiti program
Collect and compile baseline and impact data on Build Change’s builder training and homeowner technical assistance programs
Assess existing Build Change IMR tools and procedures (database and collection tools); research, suggest and implement improvements
Develop a standardized metrics dashboard that can be applied organization-wide
Identify capacity needs and build capacity of Build Change’s Haiti team to execute strategy
Mentor program staff to interview builders and homeowners, take photographs and write stories for reports and Build Change’s website
Craft and execute a post-program impact evaluation strategy to assess long-term impacts of Build Change’s work
Quantify cost per impact and Social ROI
Work with CEO and senior management team to put in writing Build Change’s existing approach to indirect impact monitoring and reporting
Document and tabulate Build Change’s indirect impacts from the Haiti program, including but not limited to reviewing project reports, performing field surveys, and interviewing partner agencies, engineers, builders and homeowners; focus on projects started in 2011 or later and longer than 6 months in duration
Establish requirements and procedures for indirect impact data collection and train program staff to collect and compile these data
Prepare written weekly, monthly, donor, and project completion reports

Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years professional experience in similar position with demonstrated partnership development or IMR experience
Professional experience in proposal writing for an international non-profit social enterprise or similar private sector business, with proven record of winning grants and contracts and exceeding fundraising or business development goals
Outstanding, outgoing interpersonal skills, high energy level, and ability to speak persuasively in front of large and small groups
Competency with social media, donor data management systems and e-newsletters (such as Salesforce, Constant Contact, giving websites)
Superior, professional writing, presentation, and communication skills
Ability to work independently, willingness to work evenings and weekends and travel within the Latin America & Caribbean region
Knowledge of and passion for Build Change’s mission
International development experience, preferably in Latin America
No ego, drama, or pessimism; the successful candidate will be flexible, humble, patient, and have a good sense of humor.
Fluent English, French and Spanish. Excellent, professional communications skills. Working knowledge of Haitian Creole a plus.
