POSITION SUMMARY

HU’s Finance department is seeking a Senior Accountant to be a key contributor to the Finance team in the financial management of a diverse and growing portfolio of projects and grantees. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for a diverse range of accounting duties while working toward the overall objectives of the organization.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Responsible for monthly general ledger entries, including accruals, intercompany,
banking and fixed asset transactions
• Prepare bank reconciliations for operating checking accounts
• Initiate wires for weekly grant payments
• Prepare ad hoc project and other financial reports, as requested
• Maintain a state of audit readiness with timely journal entry documentation
• Prepare supporting schedules for the audit and tax filings at year-end and respond
to audit requests
• Ensure accounting processes are in compliance with GAAP and company policies
• Recommend process improvements and “best practices” that increase operational
efficiency and/or enhance financial management of the organization, utilizing
innovative technological solutions
• Serve as a back up for Accounts Payable processing
• Perform financial research and analysis, as requested
• Occasionally work additional hours as determined by job responsibilities,
particularly during month-end closes and audits

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and at least five years of accounting experience
• Solid understanding of full cycle accounting including, but not limited to G/L, A/P,
Purchase Orders, Fixed Assets, and cost allocations
• Highly detail-oriented and organized
• Customer service oriented, with clear and effective verbal and written
communication skills
• Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively at all levels of staff
• Ability to meet a constant stream of deadlines
• Ability to manage conflicting demands, adjust priorities, use sound judgment,
provide constructive inputs, and adapt, as necessary
• Eagerness to develop professional skills and take on additional responsibility as
workload allows
• Experience with maintaining accounting policies, practices and systems
• Advanced level of Excel required
• Experience in enterprise level accounting software required. Great Plains and
Concur Expense experience a plus
• Strong desire to work in a mission-driven organization
