Job Description

The Nonprofit Finance Fund (NFF) seeks a full-time Senior Associate to join our growing Financial Services team. This position is based in San Francisco and reports to the Senior Business Development Investment Officer.

The Senior Associate provides analytical support and is involved in all aspects of financing, including business development, underwriting, and portfolio management. The objective of this role will be to maintain a high-quality pipeline and portfolio of investments in the west coast region, including on- and off-balance sheet loans, New Markets Tax Credit projects and tailored capital investments developed with our funding partners.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in credit and financial analysis and an understanding of one or more of the following sector areas: education, health care, human services, healthy foods, and the performing arts. The Senior Associate must represent the organization well in a client-facing capacity, and be equally responsive to and effective as an integral member of a national team with whom s/he interacts regularly. This position will require working across functional and departmental boundaries to meet the shared business goals of the Financial Services practice.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Business Development

Assist with business development, transaction structuring and initial due diligence;
Support efforts to research, identify, develop, and secure new opportunities to achieve business goals;
Perform financial analysis on prospective clients;
Prepare initial investment summary for presentation to credit committee.

Underwriting and Portfolio Management

Coordinate and manage the flow of relevant market and sector-specific information to inform underwriting, and portfolio management;
Facilitate and support transition of client relationship and client information, such as financial statements and due diligence, from origination to underwriting, approval, closing and portfolio management;
Assist Underwriters, Portfolio Managers and other members of the Financial Services team with the analysis of transactions and borrowers, management of closed transactions and overall communication with applicants, borrowers, and partners to ensure seamless and high quality client service, as needed.

Essential Requirements for Education and/or Experience:

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or MPA degree is preferred.
Minimum of three years’ work experience in a relevant field with two years of financing or lending-related experience in a CDFI or other financial institution.
Demonstrated competency in financial analysis, including the ability to develop multi-year financial projections.
Excellent (written and verbal) communications and interpersonal skills.
Experience in public speaking a plus.
Effective in project- and time-management skills.
Attention to detail is essential, as is the ability to prioritize among competing responsibilities.
Flexibility, creativity, patience and sense of humor.
Willingness to travel (25%) and meet with existing and prospective clients.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Specialized Knowledge/Beneficial Skills and Experience:

Experience with nonprofit accounting.
Demonstrated commitment to serving nonprofits, work in low-income communities and/or support for social or economic justice issues.
Knowledge and understanding of New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) and impact investing preferred.
Familiarity with Salesforce.
