Each year, we work with hundreds of nonprofits providing education and financial advice and tools to improve their financial understanding and health, and we partner with foundations across the country to develop solutions for organizations’ most pressing issues.

NFF works nationally and our staff is located across five offices in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Position Summary:

NFF seeks a Senior Associate to join our growing Financial Services team. This is a new position that will support NFF’s financing work with a particular focus on team-wide initiatives that will contribute to our growth. The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to work with a growing and innovative national CDFI on all aspects of our financing work and help to shape our future.

The position has three key aspects. First, the Senior Associate will support strategic initiatives. Acting as a point person and project manager, the Senior Associate will conduct and facilitate market research, coordinate work across the Financial Services team and with other departments, and help launch new work. Second, the position will support capitalization efforts by managing relationships with key supporters and partners, such as government agencies, foundations and financial institutions, among other duties. Lastly, this position will contribute to improved operational efficiencies through the adoption of technology-driven tools and the use of data to manage the business.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in finance, preferably working with or for CDFIs, and an understanding of one or more of the following areas: impact investing, education, health care, human services, and healthy foods. This position will work across departmental boundaries to meet the shared business goals of the Financial Services team and the larger organization.

This position is based in New York, NY and reports to the Managing Director. Travel is expected and could potentially account for up to 15% of the Senior Associate’s time.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Initiatives
– Support the implementation of our core strategy to increase mission driven organizations’ access to critical financial products.
– Conduct and manage market research projects working with both internal and external resources to identify and determine the viability of strategic opportunities.
– Project-manage the design and launch of selected strategic priorities by working across the Financial Services team and with other departments, including assisting with the development and structuring of strategic partnerships and initiatives.
– Track current and emerging market trends and issue areas.

Capitalization
– Assist the Managing Director in raising debt and other capital for our financing business.
– Research and identify sources of capital; manage the application process; draft applications.
– Manage key government grants; stay abreast of related requirements and regulations.
– Support the Managing Director in investor relations.

Information and Data Management
– Serve as Financial Services representative on working groups developing and promoting the adoption of tools to improve efficiency and data and knowledge management.
– Serve as liaison with the Knowledge & Impact team supporting NFF’s impact measurement and reporting function.
– Serve as Financial Services lead on investor reporting, managing key reports and coordinating with others to ensure timely and accurate submission of reports.
– Identify and implement new tools and processes that can contribute to efficient workflow.

Essential Requirements for Education and/or Experience:
– Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration or relevant field.
– Minimum of five years’ experience, including three years in financing with a CDFI or financial institution.
– Effective in project management.
– Excellent written and oral communications.
– Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
– Strong time management abilities; capacity to prioritize competing responsibilities.
– Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
– Willingness to travel (15%).

Specialized Knowledge/Beneficial Skills and Experience:
– MBA or MPA degree is preferred.
– Experience in financial product development and process improvement.
– Impact investing experience is a plus.
– Expertise in health, education or human services fields.
– Ability to work in a team environment and to both effectively lead diverse working groups as well as be a strong contributor.
– Salesforce experience preferred.
– Flexibility, creativity, patience and a sense of humor are highly prized qualities.
