Internship Social Enterprises Business Consultant Intern

Job Description

Nuru International is offering a Summer 2015 internship opportunity based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (duration and dates of internship are flexible and to be discussed – preferably 8-10 weeks) working with our team – reporting directly to the Social Enterprises Business Consultant (SEBC).

In Ethiopia, Nuru is looking to diversify its product lines and potentially invest in businesses with greater start-up capital requirements. This is an exciting opportunity for an autonomous individual to work hands on with the SEBC and SE Program Director based in Addis to research and develop potential product ideas. In the dynamic business environment of Ethiopia, experience in structuring a business, raising start-up capital, diversifying product lines, and minimizing risk will be gained.

Nuru will provide a weekly stipend, and cover costs associated with accommodations and travel . Travel through Ethiopia using public means will be required.

Specific Responsibilities:

-Provide guidance and advise on social business implementations
-Create, design, implement, and analyze key performance indicators (KPI) for business operations
-Review existing and new financial projections and business plans
-Assist in optimizing initiatives including identifying key issues and opportunities in sales, marketing, production, operations, quality, and other areas
-Suggest social business ideas for future launch
-Drive special projects as assigned
-Submit regular progress reports

Required Skills and Attributes:

-Must have an MBA or currently be an MBA candidate
-Must be able to live and work in a developing country
-Must be able to work independently
-Must have strong excel and financial modeling skills
-Must be able to conduct field-based research and analyze data
-Must be responsible, dependable, and results-oriented

Desired Skills:

-Previous experience running a business, starting up a business, developing a detailed business plan, working with agricultural commodities, or food manufacturing
-Previous experience living and working abroad will be valuable
-Previous consulting experience in either the private or social sector
