Freelance Volunteer Social Enterprise Consultant India

SocialStarters – Posted by SocialStarters Bommayapalayam, Tamil Nadu, India

Job Description

_Hello.

We deliver human-centred programmes that see the growth of social entrepreneurship in hard to reach places. And we are looking for amazing people to join us!

We take career changers and career breakers, post-grads and sabbaticalists, corporate learners and freelancers to amazing places, to work alongside grassroots social entrepreneurs.

In turn we help you get equipped to feel ready to explore developing your own game changing start up, bring more meaning into your work or move into the sector.

This is in part a career coaching experience for you, as we will create the space for you to figure out your own career goals but at the same time you will gain hands on experience in the world of social enterprise overseas.

_Join us in October in Auroville, Southern India.

We are recruiting our second cohort of trainee ‘Social Enterprise Consultants’ in Auroville, Tamil Nadu, volunteers we train to deliver the learning of a group of grassroots social entrepreneurs.

Auroville has an incredibly fascinating heritage and it’s root are embedded in experimentation – in this case, it came out of a simple ideal that you could ‘create’ a harmonious civilsation from scratch.

Backed by UNESCO and the Indian government, the creators of the contemporary township of Auroville wanted to create a new civilisation that was as dynamic and it was multi-cultural. To this day, Auroville is a living testament to sustainable living and the future cultural, environmental, and social needs of its population.

It’s been described as “a place to ditch the life you’ve lived, and live the life you’ve always wanted, even if for a few days; here your conviction to follow your passion holds more value than your salary or title (Read: Auroville: Utopia or Something Like it).”

_Who are we?

We are a small group of young professionals who have been making our move away from the corporate sector in the last few years. Since then we’ve been notching up hours in volunteer management, international development, youth media, CSR & social enterprise. Between us we have over 30 years of professional experience, and recently we’ve been running enterprise and social action youth programmes, managing over 200 volunteers along the way.

_Who are you?

Having worked relentlessly for years in various corporates, in challenging leadership or executive roles, you’ve started planning your escape route. It’s time.

Maybe you have left your job already and are thinking of starting out on your own in 2015 – perhaps you’re already self employed or a freelancer, and it’s time to up the game?

Or perhaps you are looking to do something completely new and just don’t know where to start. In which case, we might just have the career development programme for you.

_What you would do?

You would come and become an invaluable part of the _SocialStarters team as a Trainee Social Enterprise Consultant:

First up, we put you though our unique 1 week long training bootcamp that equips you with everything you need to know about global and Indian social entrepreneurship, basic business skills, start up methods, and how to facilitate workshops and solve real world problems.

Once graduated from Bootcamp, we then match you with your own client, a social entrepreneur who needs your support!

You then conduct a needs assessment to determine what can be achieved in the following 5 weeks.

Then you’ll design a plan for how to develop the learning of your client, focusing on the key objectives relevent to them at that stage in their start-up journey.

Aside from your client work, you’ll have a raft of new (and developed existing ideas) to work on during your time in India!

You will then spend the remaining weeks identifying problems, designing solutions, testing ideas, building brands and making a long lasting impact for your client.

After bootcamp the learning doesn’t stop either – we provide additional sessions and tools that give you a deeper dive into some of the methods we introduce, affording you better knowledge in key areas from our expert team.

_Who will you be working with?

Your clients will be a small group of grassroots Indian social entrepreneurs who are making a huge different in their communities tackling real world problems for consumers at the base of the pyramid. We are currently working with Unltd, a prestigious social entrepreneurship incubator. Unltd is a one year programme, where they are developing social impact start-ups around environment, education, health and livelihoods.

You’ll get to work with start-ups who are at the early stages of their start-up journey (approx 6-12 months) and will help facillitate the learning that will ensure they are developing sustainable enterprises.

We may also have a couple of volunteer positions for people who would like to consultant to UnLtd.

A former Hyderabad graduate says:

“I’ve attended dozens of training courses and workshops in my time, and I have to say that the format, style and quality of the training has been exceptional. I’ve learnt more than I ever could have imagined on topics such as social enterprise, lean start-ups and the local market.
It’s been a fully rounded and immersive experience.”
