Each year, we work with hundreds of nonprofits providing education and financial advice and tools to improve their financial understanding and health, and we partner with foundations across the country to develop solutions for organizations’ most pressing issues.

NFF works nationally and our staff is located across five offices in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Position Summary:

The Associate Director, Knowledge & Communications (K&C) will be a senior member of a fast-moving and highly collaborative team that designs and executes outreach, communications, and thought-leadership projects that advance NFF’s work toward a more just and vibrant society. S/he will be charged with planning, overseeing, and helping to implement select projects from conception to dissemination, such as (but not limited to): issues-based and other communications campaigns, and print and online deliverables and collateral including NFF publications, content on three websites, and marketing/sales support for NFF business units. This position requires a very strong writer/editor and accomplished storyteller with a very keen eye for detail; creativity and strong experience across print and digital platforms, and a talent for making often complex subject matter engaging and accessible to both B2B and community-facing audiences. S/he will be a key NFF brand ambassador; will oversee select projects with minimal supervision (often serving as the final eye and approver), and must be a team player ready and willing to roll up sleeves and pitch in on mundane as well as strategic tasks.
The ideal candidate embodies NFF’s values; proactively builds strong relationships with and wholeheartedly collaborates across K&C and wider NFF teams and departments; provides support and adds value up and down the management chain, and is a keen and active listener ready to add a constructive voice to discussions.
This position will report to the Vice President, Knowledge & Communications. While the preferred location is NFF’s New York headquarters, excellent candidates will be considered in Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

♣ Contribute strongly and creatively to strategic planning and processes.
♣ Perform and manage execution of select K&C projects and campaigns.
♣ Work across the team and NFF to build solid working relationships that help K&C identify and act on key messages, stories, and channels that advance NFF’s business objectives and mission.
♣ Oversee issues management that keeps the team and NFF up to date on our operating environment.
♣ Write, edit, and otherwise ensure impactful, engaging, and well-presented content.
♣ Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Requirements for Education and/or Experience:

♣ Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 8 years’ experience in professional communications (work samples will be requested).
♣ Nonprofit, finance, health, and/or B2B experience particularly welcome.
♣ Creative, strategic, and critical thinking.
♣ Excellent writing, editing, content development (including design/layout liaison) and proofreading skills.
♣ Strong experience developing, utilizing, and managing websites, publications, and social media.
♣ A team-player with good time-management skills and a sense of humor even when facing tight deadlines and high work volume; comfort working in some ambiguity; willingness and ability to pivot when necessary.
♣ Solid ability to execute projects collaboratively and with minimal supervision.
♣ Demonstrated interest in the social sector and a more just and vibrant society.
