Team 

The Compassionate Education Systems (CES) initiative at NCYL aims to improve the educational outcomes of young people experiencing homelessness, involved in the foster care system, and/or on juvenile probation. This initiative operates at systems, youth, and community levels to ensure students experience compassion by the many adults entrusted to support them and are supported on their path to graduate from high school and the many opportunities ahead of them. To accomplish this vision, NCYL partners with school districts, state agencies, county offices of education, probation offices, child welfare offices, and community-based organizations. 

Position 

NCYL seeks a Program Coordinator to manage data and evaluation projects for the CES initiative. This position offers a rare opportunity in both software product management and project management. The Program Coordinator will manage a student data software program named EdTeamConnect (ETC) to ensure its optimal use for program operations, evaluation, and reporting. The Program Coordinator will also be responsible for project management of operational and fundraising projects and will coordinate activities across a staff team of 20 working in multiple locations. Lastly, the Program Coordinator will collaborate with both internal staff and external partners to plan, coordinate, and execute Learning, Research, and Evaluation activities and projects. 

The Program Coordinator will report to Compassionate Education Systems’ Deputy Director and Counsel. 

Essential Functions 

Learning, Research, and Evaluation (LRE) 

  • Project manage deliverables in the areas of learning, research, and evaluation 
  • Coordinate communications and data collection among CES’s external partners and internal staff regarding LRE activities, such as education data collection and youth surveys 
  • Manage the safe and secure exporting, cleaning, organizing, and sharing of data personally identifiable information (PII) as it relates to LRE projects 
  • Produce data visualizations including internally and externally facing program reports that reflect program metrics 

Information and Technology 

  • Ensure the ETC software remains a functional tool in collaboration with program staff and outside developers 
  • Fulfill program and reporting needs regarding ETC/program data, including producing reports, and data extracts  
  • Identify and address program technology training needs among staff and external partners 
  • Project manage new ETC development projects and improvements, including: communicating with NCYL’s third party developers, ETC users, and CES Program Managers; managing timelines and workflow; and performing detail-oriented Quality Assurance (QA) checks prior to new deployments. 

Development 

  • Project manage fundraising deliverables for funders in collaboration with the Development team 

Program Support  

  • Provide administrative support to CES program directors and leadership on priority projects as needed 
  • Schedule meetings with multiple external stakeholder and coalition partners 
  • Capture detailed notes during meetings, track agreements and next step activities and follow up with partners to monitor progress on meeting deliverables 
  • Coordinate internal team events and meetings 
  • Coordinate technology projects (e.g., websites and intake forms) as well as internal resources for staff (handbooks updates and training videos) 

Qualifications 

  • At least five (5) years of experience in any combination of the following: LRE; nonprofit program coordination; data analysis; software development, and/or youth advocacy. At least one of the five years of experience shall be in data analysis and/or LRE work. Experience may consist of employment, internships, fellowships, and the like 
  • Experience with and passion for technology and data 
  • Demonstrated commitment to youth rights issues 
  • Ability to organize and analyze data with excellent attention to detail 
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills 
  • Ability to learn new technology, and teach/build capacity for staff to use technology tools more effectively 
  • Experience with MS Office software suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and Salesforce. Experience with GitHub and Slack is a plus 
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with different priorities, and respond flexibly to shifting priorities 
  • Ability to identify programmatic inefficiencies and suggest solutions 
  • Willingness to travel to Compassionate Systems’ demonstration sites in California and Arizona 
  • Ability to listen deeply and build trust across the team 
  • Creative and adaptable work orientation; ability to problem-solve, think creatively, and be flexible in response to shifting needs of the CES staff and partners 

Physical Requirements 

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 

Salary, Benefits, and Location 

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Salary is competitive at $83,919.00 annually. A geographic salary differential may be applied if the candidate resides somewhere other than the Oakland, CA, Los Angeles, CA, New York City, or Washington, DC metro areas. This means that the salary would be reduced if the candidate resides in an area where the cost of labor is less than that of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Candidates must reside in, or be willing to relocate to, Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, New York, Virginia, Washington DC, or Wisconsin. 

This position is eligible for 100% remote work through December 31, 2024. It is possible that starting in January of 2025, NCYL will require people to work in an office, in which case they will need to be in a location where they can commute to a NCYL office regularly (DC, Los Angeles, Oakland or Sacramento).
